How to Choose the Right Glass for Project
Clients are often unaware that glass is much more than simply a “transparent layer” — it plays a key role in a building’s energy efficiency, safety and acoustic performance.
In modern architecture, glass is no longer regarded as merely a transparent material. It is a high-performance component that influences a building’s energy efficiency, safety and visual character. Choosing the right type of glass is just as important as the engineering calculations behind the structure itself.
Let’s look at the main types of glass we offer.
Tempered Glass — Enhanced Safety and Strength
Tempered glass is four to five times stronger than ordinary glass. Its main advantages are the increased strength and safety achieved through thermal treatment.
If broken, it shatters into small, relatively blunt fragments, significantly reducing the risk of injury. This makes tempered glass an essential solution for façades, railings and overhead glazing applications.
Laminated Glass
Laminated glass consists of two or more layers of glass bonded together with a special protective interlayer, typically PVB (polyvinyl butyral).
Its main advantages include:
Safety: If the glass breaks, the fragments remain adhered to the interlayer rather than scattering.
Sound insulation: An effective solution for improving acoustic comfort in noisy environments.
Protection: Laminated glass is frequently used in security applications, including vandal-resistant and bullet-resistant glazing systems.
Energy-Efficient Low-E Glass
Low-emissivity (Low-E) glass features a special, virtually invisible metallic coating designed to control the transfer of thermal energy.
In winter: it helps retain heat inside the building.
In summer: it helps reduce heat transfer from the outside.
This contributes directly to lower energy consumption and helps maintain a comfortable indoor environment throughout the year.
Solar Control Low-E Glass
Unlike standard Low-E glass, solar control glass is specifically designed to manage solar radiation.
It significantly reduces the transmission of infrared and ultraviolet radiation, helping protect interiors from overheating and reducing the fading of furniture and finishes, while still allowing natural daylight into the space.
It is particularly suitable for large glazed façades exposed to intensive direct sunlight.
Ultimately, selecting the right glass is an individual process that depends on the building’s location, intended use and architectural design. We help our clients choose the right combination to ensure that their façade is not only visually appealing, but also functional, efficient and durable.
